Topic Practice Exams

Topic exams are focused 20-question quizzes that help you master specific subject areas efficiently.

What Are Topic Exams?

Topic exams are short, focused practice sessions designed to help you improve in specific areas. Instead of covering all topics like a full exam, each topic exam focuses on just one subject area with 20 targeted questions.

Why 20 questions? Research shows that focused practice on one topic at a time is more effective than mixed practice for building foundational knowledge. 20 questions gives you enough practice to learn without overwhelming you.

  • Detailed explanations - Learn why each answer is correct with statute references

  • Change answers - Use the Previous button to go back and change answers before submitting

How Scores Work

When you complete a topic exam, your score for that topic is updated immediately on your dashboard. Your topic score shows your most recent performance, not an average of all attempts.

This means:

  • Score 100% and your topic immediately shows 100%
  • Your improvement is visible right away
  • You always see your current skill level, not historical performance

Goal: Move all topics to 75% or higher (the "Strengths" category) before taking your real exam.

Best Practices

  • Focus on one topic at a time - Master it before moving to the next
  • Review every explanation - Even for questions you got right
  • Retake until you score 75%+ - This moves the topic to "Strengths"
  • Start with your weakest topics - They have the most room for improvement
  • Take notes on patterns - Notice what types of questions trip you up

FAQ

Can I take the same topic exam multiple times?

Yes! You can take topic exams as many times as you want. Questions are drawn from our question bank, so you may see some repeat questions, but you'll also see new ones. Answer order is always randomized.

Will taking topic exams affect my overall statistics?

Yes, topic exams count toward your total quizzes taken, questions answered, and average score on your dashboard statistics.

How is a topic exam different from a full practice exam?

A topic exam has 20 questions all from one subject area. A full practice exam mirrors the real test with questions from all topics. Topic exams are for focused practice; full exams are for testing overall readiness.

Can I see my topic exam history?

Yes! Go to History to see all your completed exams. Topic exams are labeled "Topic Exam" with the subject name shown below.
